La magistrada Lidia Estela Cardona fue detenida en el aeropuerto Toncontín cuando salía de Honduras con 14 mil dólares, monto superior a lo permitido por la legislación local, que es de 10 mil dólares.

Tegucigalpa. La magistrada del Tribunal Constitucional del Poder Judicial de Honduras, Estela Cardona, fue detenida este viernes cuando pretendía salir rumbo a Europa con 14 mil dólares (más de 300 mil lempiras), siendo liberada posteriormente.
Las autoridades señalaron que la alta jueza fue detenida en el aeropuerto internacional de Toncontin, cuando procedía a ingresar a la sala de espera para abordar el vuelo rumbo al denominado viejo continente y fue requerida para que diera explicaciones sobre el monto de dinero que transportaba.
Cardona, según informes brindados por las autoridades, explicó que varios de los familiares, entre ellos, hijos y nietos, llevaban dinero, por lo que la cantidad declarada superaba el monto máximo permitido.
No obstante, la magistrada desmintió que haya sido detenida por la Policía Nacional y que “no he tenido ese problema, no he tenido esa situación, tampoco estoy detenida”.
Asimismo, detalló que el monto que llevaba consigo, era de nueve mil dólares (un poco más de 200 mil lempiras).
Cardona fue nombrada magistrada de la Sala Constitucional, en sustitución de Óscar Chinchilla, que fue investido en agosto de 2013 como fiscal general de Honduras.
La funcionaria había sido magistrada de la Corte Suprema de Justicia en el periodo 2002-2009, en la gestión de Vilma Cecilia Morales; además fungió como presidenta de la Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones y subsecretaria de Gobernación en la administración de Porfirio Lobo Sosa.
También fue candidata a designada presidencial en la corriente del exalcalde capitalino y actual vicepresidente Ricardo Álvarez.
